Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SaSH) provides training for Early Years Dental Trainees, Dental Core Trainees and Dental Speciality Trainees (Special Care Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, Oral Surgery).
The Dental service at SASH has a strong multidisciplinary focus, with both Level 2 (enhanced primary care) and Level 3a/b (specialist and consultant led care) services hosted within the department.
Dental trainees will gain experience in specialities such as oral surgery, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry and special care dentistry. Trainees will also be able to see patients being treated under local anaesthesia, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.
Our resident dentists will be able to attend a variety of local hands-on study days (including oral surgery and paediatrics) in our onsite, high fidelity Dental Simulation Lab as part of their training programme.
To supplement their learning, Dental trainees are also encouraged to attend our ‘Grand Round’ lectures on a Thursday from 13:00 to 14:00 in the Lecture Theatre in the Post Graduate Education Centre (PGEC). All clinical staff are invited to attend this event, whereby interesting cases are discussed and presented by a different clinical team each week. Our dental trainees will also be offered the opportunity to present during their time with us.
